October 8, 1951, a group of men gathered at the Cleburne Livestock Auction Barn to form a group to promote good will among horsemen and other area citizens and to create interest in western stock horses and to help preserve the traditions of the Old West.  One week later the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse was formed.  The very first three day RCA Rodeo held at the fair grounds were Sponsored by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse.
