FRIENDS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION

March 24, 2019

MEETING MINUTES

 

       ATTENDED:

       Lynn Buker, Wilma Reed, Darlene West, John Percifield, Andy Asberry, Bill Conover, Guest Kathy Misek

  1. CALL TO ORDER-Darlene West

     

  2. OPENING PRAYER- Wilma Reed

     

  3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE- Darlene West

     

  4. TREASURER’S REPORT- $3748.69

     

    Lynn Buker made a motion to approve the Treasurers Report Andy Asberry 2nd; All for

    We have $22.00 from Heritage Home for Sales of a Tee, a mug and 3 pens)

     

  5. APPROVE MINUTES

    John Percifield made a motion to approve the minutes, Wilma Reed    2nd; All for

  6. OLD BUSINESS:

    Darlene states we will not be able to sell merchandise until we get our 501C3 reinstated.

    Wilma and Darlene have met with The Accountant Mike Bowls to file paperwork and pay the penalty. We hope to have it re-instated soon.

    John states he has an Event tent for the Friends to use.

    Lynn will get us a cost and design on curtains for the Little House for the next meeting.

    Lynn will also get the Plaque info for Jack Carlton’s Plaque.

    Dues for this year are due now. Please give your payment to Wilma.

  7. NEW BUSINESS:

Darlene is working on boosting our posts to join Friends on Face Book and Website.

*Lynn made a suggestion that we sell our Friends items on Facebook or Website.

Bill Conover made a suggestion that we get a PayPal account for the Friends. We can’t do this until we get our 501C3 reinstated.

Bill asked what address we use; Darlene stated we use the Main Street Address.

*Darlene asked what we should participate in to get participation in the Friends, Suggestion was Candle walk with SOC, Chamber Meet and Greet, maybe even have a meet & Greet at the Courthouse.

** Kathy Misik (8th grade teacher) wants to partner with the Friends on a Geo-Cashing-Scavenger Hunt for School Kids…

Bill Conover thinks it would be great for us to sponsor a Scavenger Hunt. (Plant information for them to find and take photo’s when they find the item. Would be great PR.

Lynn & Kathy will work up something for the next meeting.

MEETING MINUTES

       IN ATTENDENCE:

        John Percifield,  Bill Conover, Wilma Reed, Danny Doggett, Andy Asberry, Darlene West

       CALL TO ORDER - Darlene West

 

  1. OPENING PRAYER – Wilma Reed

     

  2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Darlene West

     

  3. TREASURER’S REPORT

     

    1. Bank Account Balance: $3,668.69
    2. CD Balance: $

       

      • Bill Conover made motion to approve minutes; Andy Asberry 2nd. Motion Carried

         

  4. SALES Darlene reported Donations of $28

     

  5. APPROVE MINUTES

     

    • Bill Conover made a motion to approve the minutes, Wilma Reed 2nd; Motion Carried

       

  6. OLD BUSINESS

     

    • Wilma and Darlene provided update on Comptroller’s Office issue:
      • We are waiting for letter from Comptroller’s Office in reply to our CPA’s request/inquiry. Darlene is going to the Post Office twice a week and will deliver the letter as soon as it arrives.
      • Information on the plaque honoring Jack Carlton was not available at this time.

         

  7. NEW BUSINESS

     

    • New tent, table and table skirt for sales events
      • John will donate a tent
      • Darlene will research and provide prices, etc. at March meeting

         

    • DISCUSSION: Marketing Ideas
      • Speakers from different towns to present on the history of their community
        • Each member will attempt to locate a speaker and notify Darlene
        • Members agreed that the speakers should be on different evenings other than meeting nights and at different venues (perhaps the Doty House)
        • Refreshments and sales items should be available at these venues
      • Raffles were discussed and will be looked into – with advertising in county newspapers
      • Bill Conover suggested a “special event” at the Museum
        • Darlene will look into options for such an event
      • Darlene suggested extending FOC presence at Chamber, Save Old Cleburne and like events. All agreed and she will get with Lynn and Chamber staff.

ATTENDED:

    Andy Asberry made a motion to approve the minutes, Wilma Reed    2nd; All for

  6. NEW BUSINESS:

Darlene states we will not be able to sell merchandise until we get our 501C3 reinstated.

Wilma and Darlene will be meeting with The Accountant Mike Bowls this week to file paperwork and pay the $59.02 penalty

Darlene met with Heather at the Chamber of Commerce and anytime we need new brochures, she said they will sponsor and pay for the cost of reprinting.

We will need new Event Tents for this year. John states he may have just what we need. He will let us know next month.

Wilma is working on the history of all our furniture in the Little Old House and has asked that we purchase new curtains for the meeting room. Lynn made a motion to purchase the curtains for the Meeting Room, 2nd; All for

Lynn will get us a cost for the next meeting.

    Darlene is working on boosting our posts to join Friends on Face Book and Website.

    Darlene has rented a space for Old Settlers Reunion in Alvarado. We will sell books, tees and new merchandise. Lynn showed us key chains and Mugs. Sam Walls made a motion to purchase the Black with Blue inside the mugs and 36 ea. We will also order 50 key chains; Wilma Reed 2nd; All for

    Sam Walls asked to do a marker for the 1919 Engine at Hulen Park. Wilma stated that it would be something we need to ask JCHC.

**How do we expand our Membership?

Darlene has put a membership form on our website. Face Book and our Website.. Bring guests to our meetings! Ideas ???
