The Office of Elections Administrator was created by the Johnson County Commissioners' Court pursuant to Section 31.031 of the Texas Election Code. The duties of the Elections Administrator are to facilitate voter registration and conduct elections.

One of the most important functions of county government is to oversee the electoral process. The Elections Department has the responsibility of conducting all federal, state, and county elections and certain elections for municipalities, independent school districts, and other political subdivisions that contract with Johnson County for election services.
