Health Service Regions 2 & 3

The mission of Health Service Regions 2/3 is to protect and promote the health of the people in the 49 counties of Regions 2/3. In keeping with this mission, each program or activity conducted by the Region will strive to obtain the most up-to-date information possible about public health conditions, to direct its human and financial resources toward the areas where improvement in public health are needed, and to make every effort to ensure that the people of Regions 2/3 receive the vital information and services needed to maintain and improve the health of the public.

The regional office for PHR 2/3 is located in Arlington, with sub-regional offices in Abilene and Wichita Falls. Of the 49 counties covered, 38 do not have local health departments. Geographically, PHR 2/3 covers an area larger than 17 states and has a population greater than 33 states.

The Region employs a multidisciplinary team consisting of a public health physician, veterinarians, nurses, nutritionists, sanitarians, social workers, environmental quality specialists and support staff. This team serves the public health needs of the 38 counties without health departments. The Region also acts as a primary resource for the existing local health agencies, and encourages the development of additional local departments as the population of the regions continues to grow.
