We are a multi-purpose office and serve the citizens of Johnson County in many ways. Our office is located on the third floor of the Johnson County Annex, west of the Courthouse. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All new construction in the County must have a Development Permit issued by the Public Works office before building begins. If a property is in a flood plain zone the owner will need to get an elevation certificate from a surveyor licensed by the State of Texas. A finished floor of a new building must be three feet above the base flood elevation. Please contact our Flood Plain Manager concerning questions with flood plain issues. Our office does have a copy of the current FEMA flood plain maps that are available for reference.
Public Works also provides septic system permits, inspections and addresses septic complaints. We review plats and inspect construction of new roadways in preparation for placement on the Commissioner's Court agenda. Road Bore, Pipeline Right-of-Way, and Geophysical permits are also issued by the Public Works office.
