Job Description:

DUTIES
Under immediate supervision, performs general security and inmate supervision duties in the operation of the County Jail. Guards inmates in accordance with established policies and regulations; Makes inspection tours of assigned areas; Conducts searches for contraband articles; Employs weapons or physical force when necessary in maintaining discipline and order among prisoners; Obtains medical aid for prisoners when needed; Escorts authorized visitors to and from visitation areas; Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work areas; may process and transfer inmates.  Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:
No experience required.  Preference given for prior law enforcement, corrections, or security experience.

EDUCATION:
High school graduate or GED equivalency. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a citizen of the United States of America, age 18 or older; be able to pass a background check; if former military, have a discharge of Honorable or above; pass a physical and psychological examination; pass drug test. 

Applicants must: Have NO Class A or B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten years; have NO convictions for DWI or driving under the influence of drugs within the past 24 months; have no felony convictions; have no family violence convictions; must not currently be under indictment for any criminal offense. 

Applicants for Commissioned Law Enforcement positions must have a notarized TCLEOSE Waiver accompanying their Johnson County Application for Employment.  Waivers are available in the Personnel Office and on the Johnson County web site.


GENERAL PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others.
