Welcome
Thank you for visiting the website for Johnson County Precinct #3. We hope this site is informative for you and provides a means for you to contact us with your concerns, suggestions, and, hopefully, an occasional praise.

Precinct #3 is located in the northeast portion of Johnson County, Texas, and, while being the smallest in area at slightly over 114 square miles, it still boasts over 271 miles of county roadway. In addition to rural county area, we also include all or parts of the communities of Burleson, Cross Timbers, Briar Oaks, Alvarado, Venus, Lillian, and Mansfield.

The general precinct boundaries are Tarrant County to the north, Ellis County to the east, Hwy 67 to the south, and IH35(W) to the west, although the southwestern boundaries include all of Alvarado out to Alvarado Lake, and parts of the western boundary also include Cross Timbers and Briar Oaks.

Many people relate the commissioner’s office with road repairs but, while that is a large portion of our responsibility, there is much more to the duties of a county commissioner.

The Commissioners’ Court of every Texas county is compromised of four Commissioners and one County Judge. Each Commissioner is elected from approximately one fourth of the county’s population and the County Judge is elected countywide. As a whole, the Commissioners’ Court handles general county business, including:
Taxes
Determine County tax rates & set yearly property tax rate
Budgets
Adopt a County budget
Approve budgets and employment levels for the County
Establish financial and law enforcement / jail-needs plans
Set employment and benefit policy
Planning
- Establish long-range thoroughfare, open space, land use, and development plans.
- Review and approve subdivision planning and rural wastewater treatment
- Oversee construction, maintenance, and improvement of county roads and bridges
- Set commissioner and justice of the peace precinct boundaries
- Supervise and control the County courthouse, County buildings, and facilities
Elections and Appointments
- Call, conduct, and certify elections, including bond elections
- Fill vacancies in elected and appointed positions
- Appoint other officials and committee members
